Are you in the market for an electric scooter? A Pulse electric scooter may be just what you’ve been looking for. With a sturdy steel and patented composite frame, a 100-watt electric motor, and an easy twist-throttle and push-to-go technology, anyone from age eight and up can safely ride a Pulse electric scooter.

There are dozens of electric scooters you can choose from, for all different budgets. Most electric scooters start around $100 but can go up in price to $500 or more. For most people, a mid-line price of around $150 will buy them a good-quality electric scooter that will be dependable and provide them with years of fun. The Pulse electric scooter fits nicely into this category.

About the Pulse Electric Scooter

Pulse electric scooters are made by Pulse Performance Products, a California-based company that started in 2007 with a goal towards making “the most epic scooters on the planet,” as their website claims. The first Pulse scooter was a kick-and-go performance scooter, and since then they’ve come out with several different lines of scooters that appeal to all different tastes. Pulse Performance Products (PPP) also makes traditional kick-scooters as well safe-start scooters for younger riders.

Pulse electric scooters come in several different models, from the low-end GRT-111 to the Dura Street scooter, but they all share several similarities.

Features

For instance, Pulse electric scooters all have a 100-watt chain-driven engine, powered by either a 12- or 24-volt rechargeable batteries. All Pulse electric scooters come with rear-wheel braking, an important safety feature that not only prevents the scooter from flipping over during sudden braking events but also allows the scooter to stop more quickly and smoothly.

Next, all Pulse electric scooters are made using Pulse Performance Products’ patented two-piece Composite Deck Texture surface, which provides fantastic grip and a stable, nearly-unbreakable platform for riders. This technology makes Pulse electric scooters safe and stylish.

In addition to all of these features, the Pulse electric scooter line comes with Push-To-Go startup. All you need to do is hop on the scooter and give one good push, and the motor will start up and take you away immediately. There is no need for handle-buttons or complicated throttle systems, which makes Pulse electric scooters safe and enjoyable for children. Pulse recommends its products for ages eight and over, and they are committed to your child’s safety. With a maximum weight of 120 lbs, most adults won’t be comfortable, or safe, riding on a Pulse electric scooter, so these scooters are intended more for children than adults.

Specifications

When it comes to the safety of your children, you’ll want to make sure you know what you’re buying. Pulse Performance Products are extremely transparent about what goes into each of their products, and their specifications are up-front and easy to read. Here is a quick run-down of Pulse electric scooter specifications:

  • 100-watt chain-driven engine
  • 12 v or 24 v rechargeable battery (depending on model)
  • 12 v battery gives 10 minutes ride time
  • 24 v battery gives up to 40 minutes of ride time
  • Rear-wheel braking
  • Push-To-Go technology
  • 2-piece Composite Deck Traction (CDT)
  • Sturdy, heavy-duty all-steel stem
  • Wheels are 6.3” x 1”
  • Entire scooter measures 31” x 18” x 35”
  • Weights 22 lbs
  • Recommended for ages eight and up, up to a maximum of 120 pounds

Pricing

The Pulse electric scooter starts at $100 for the lower-end GRT-111 models, which come with a single rechargeable 12 v battery, but for an extra $30 you can upgrade to the Reverb models, which come with a more powerful, and longer-lasting, 24 v rechargeable battery. Pulse electric scooters go up to $200, but final pricing ultimately depends on the retailer.

The following is a quick breakdown of manufacturer pricing:

  • GRT-111 $99
  • Reverb Electric Scooter $129
  • RF-200 $150
  • Dura Street electric scooter $189
  • Sonic XL $200

Warranty

Pulse Performance Products offers a 90-day limited warranty, guaranteeing its products free from manufacturer defect, although this warranty does not cover tires or cables, and the Pulse will only replace defective parts, meaning you’ll need to either assemble any replaced parts yourself or shell out money for someone else to do it.

Because disassembling the electric scooter voids the entire warranty, getting a defective part replaced makes this an extremely limited warranty, especially when compared with the competition.

One way around the limited warranty that Pulse offers is to purchase an extended warranty from a retailer. At least this way you’ll know your investment is protected.

How Do Pulse Scooters Compare?

There are dozens of quality electric scooter manufacturers you can choose from. Some are American-based companies, but most of them are Chinese or Japanese. For this comparison, we’ll look at two other mid-range electric scooters that are comparable to the Pulse electric scooter, and we’ll also look at a low-end budget electric scooter and an expensive high-end scooter, just to get an idea of where Pulse scooters come in.

Also, every review will include a one-to-five-star rating in four categories: ease of use, safety, build quality and warranty.

Pulse Electric Scooters

We’ve already looked at these scooters with some detail, so we’ll just quickly give you a rundown, so you know how they compare to the competition. One thing to consider when comparing Pulse scooters to the competition is that Pulse is designed more for children in mind, whereas many of the competitors make their electric scooters for adults.

Xiaomi M365 Electric Scooter

Xiaomi is one of China’s largest electronics manufacturers, famous around the world for their Android smartphones, tablets, and sound systems. They also make the M365 electric scooter, which is one of the most powerful electric scooters on the market. With a 250-watt engine, the M365 can reach speeds of 15 mph and can travel for distances up to 18 miles!

In addition to a powerful motor, the M365 comes with a dual-disk braking system which includes ABS and traction control.

Although this scooter is fast, it’s made with standard aluminum and can easily fold up. This makes the construction of the scooter less than reliable. The M365 comes with a standard Xiaomi warranty, which guarantees all parts for 12 months and comes with a complete no-questions-asked return policy for the first 30 days!

Qaba Electric Scooters

Qaba is a Chinese manufacturer who makes children’s products such as stuffed animals, rocking horses, skateboards and, of course, scooters. Their products can be found in Walmart, Amazon, and through their online retailer, Aesom.

One of Qaba’s products is an electric scooter, which is extremely powerful and comes with gigantic tires meant for off-road conditions. The scooter has a folding design and is constructed of aluminum and plastics. Qaba products come with a limited 12-month warranty.

Razor Electric Scooters

Razor is an American company founded in 2000. They pride themselves on inventing the electric scooter, a claim that we tried to check out but couldn’t prove or discredit it. Razor electric scooters come with two 12 volt batteries and a twist-grip handle-bar throttle. These scooters also have a front-wheel braking system using a traditional handle-bar lever, which makes them more prone to flip-overs than Pulse or Hudora scooters.

Like Pulse electric scooters, Razor’s warranty is only good for 90 days and only covers parts, not including wheels or cables.

Costzon Electric Scooter

If the scooters we’ve been reviewing so far have been mid-range, then the Costzon electric scooter definitely fits into the low-end of the scooter line for its price point. Costzon is an Amazon-only retailer that produces some of its own products, such as electric toy cars and scooters. At $80, Costzon electric scooters are cheap. They come with two 12-volt rechargeable batteries that can reach speeds of up to 7 miles per hour and can travel for 6 miles. This scooter has a front brake system, making it less safe than the Pulse electric scooter. There is no warranty available for this scooter, so you’re really getting what you pay for.

Swagtron Electric Scooter

When it comes to high-end electric scooters, Swagtron is one of the top manufacturers. This American-based company is famous for producing hoverboards and skateboards, but they’ve also been making bikes and scooters for some time. The Swagtron “Swagger” electric scooter is one of their favorites.

In addition to being high-end and much more expensive than most other scooters on the market, the Swagger has a 250-watt motor that can reach speeds of 15 miles per hour for a distance of up to 15 miles. It’s made with a carbon-fiber folding frame and can carry up to 250 lbs. A backlit LED control panel lets you ride in low-light (although we don’t suggest that you do), and it all weighs only 15 lbs!

The Swagtron electric scooter is covered by a one-year warranty that covers manufacturer defects under normal wear-and-tear.

Pros & Cons

While Pulse electric scooters are a popular, high-quality and affordable brand, there are pros and cons to consider, as with any product. The durable construction and the safe startup and braking system make for some powerful strengths, but the battery could be better, and the warranty is lackluster at best. Here’s a detailed breakdown of the pros and cons.

Pros

  • Push-to-Go technology makes it easy and safe to start up. No complicated handlebar throttles required.
  • Rear-wheel braking makes this scooter safe to use for children and adults alike.
  • Patented two-piece Composite Deck Traction provides a sturdy, non-slip platform to ride on.
  • Heavy-duty steel stem protects against breaks and bends.
  • At around $150, the price is fantastic for the quality.
  • Very safe and reliable.

Cons

  • 12 volt and 24 volt batteries don’t provide very much endurance.
  • Speeds of up to 10 miles per hour are a lot slower than the competition.
  • The warranty is one of the more limited warranties in the industry.

Our Verdict

The Pulse electric scooter offers a lot at an excellent price point. With a sturdy construction made from a patented design, a safe and reliable braking system, Push-to-Go technology that allows you to start up and accelerate without handlebar throttles, and a company dedicated to making safe products for all members of your family, you are getting an amazing electric scooter when you choose Pulse.

Also, when compared with other brands such as Razor, Xiaomi, and Hudaro, you get some unique Pulse-only features. The two-piece Composite Deck Traction that Pulse uses on their electric scooters can’t be found anywhere else. This allows its riders to comfortably stand on the scooter without fear of slippage and provides a sturdier and safer ride than any of the other scooters we reviewed here.

In addition to a sturdy deck, the Pulse electric scooter line uses heavy-duty steel for its stem. This makes it much sturdier than the aluminum most of the competition uses. The higher-end models, such as the Swagtron Swagger, may provide an equally-sturdy stem, but the Pulse electric scooter is only $150.

Although the Pulse electric scooter has some drawbacks, particularly with the unimpressive warranty and a motor that could use a bigger battery, all-in-all you’re getting a fantastic electric scooter at a very affordable price. This makes the Pulse electric scooter one of the most popular on the market today!
